Don’t Be Evil 2

You could argue that we have a Presidential election that pits the forces of evil against the forces of it-could-be-worse.

That’s no reason to bail. As Kevin Drum puts it:

That said, if you’re an actual lefty agonizing over whether you can possibly support the lesser of two evils this year, I have nine words for you: How did that work out for you in 2000?

Voting is not a right. It is a duty.

Throwing away your vote shirks your duty.

So agree. In the next four years Obama won’t do anything about global warming — it’s done. He won’t stop drone assassinations, the clandestine war wherever we feel like and we probably will still be in Afghanistan. And we could be in another war in the Middle East. However, the alternative is you get all that plus an even more wrecked economy and everyone not-GOP living in a permanent world of hurt. It’s pretty simple.
On a side note, if we ran the country then like it is now we’d still be making the rubble bounce in Japan, Germany and everyone else who ever looked cross-eyed at us. It’s agonizing seeing the growth of the tally list: the jihadi opportunists in Libya (means a secret war forever, there), the idiots who are attacking bank websites, on and on.

    It’s agreed.

It ain’t a perfect world.  And I shouldn’t be able to go around in shorts and sandals in Virginia in October, but I did. As I type this, it’s 77 Fahrenheits at 11 p. m. on a bleeping October evening. That ain’t right. But I can gua-ran-tee (channeling Justin Wilson here) that Obama’s more likely to realize that that ain’t right than Mittens is.

And there is no chance that the world will get nearer to perfection as long as the Republican Party still has a de facto veto in Congress. Anyone who throws away his or her vote contributes to maintaining that veto.

And Obama is behaving exactly as he promised. He ran as a centrist (not a Broderism centrist, an actual centrist) and he’s acting like one. I’d rather see a true leftie, but that ain’t happening.

Lefties who somehow expected him to turn into a member of the Greens upon election were deluding themselves. Their disappointment is self-inflicted.

Also too, this notion that President = Tsar mystifies me.

I learned a long time ago that, if you can’t be with the one you love, you have to love the one you’re with.

I also realized long ago that any Democrat is preferable to every Republican. Civilized discourse can proceed from that postulate.

I also don’t believe in evolution. I don’t think that Democrats and Republicans humane beings have a common ancestor.
